Structural and Bioelectrochemical Study of Direct Electron Transfer-type enzymes for Electrochemical Applications
My research group focuses on several direct electron transfer (DET)-type enzymes including fructose dehydrogenase (FDH), alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), aldehyde dehydrogenase (AlDH), formate dehydrogenase (FoDH), bilirubin oxidase (BOD), and Cu efflux oxidase (CueO). We elucidated the 3-D structures of some of the DET-type enzymes by cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and discussed the ET pathway from the viewpoints of structural biology and bioelectrochemistry. Other electrochemical applications (biofuel cells, biosensors, and bioreactors) using DET-type enzymes will also be presented.
