Microbiologiste et Biochimiste, spécialiste dans l’étude des protéines chaperons et des métalloprotéines, mon projet actuel consiste à décrypter l’impact d’un stress cuivre sur les bactéries et sur la protéostasie (homéostasie des protéines). Les travaux actuellement menés au laboratoire démontrent qu’un léger excès de cuivre dans une cellule entraine l’inactivation voire l’agrégation de nombreuses protéines. Dans ces conditions, les protéines chaperons jouent un rôle majeur. Nos travaux permettent une meilleure compréhension du mécanisme d’action du cuivre et ouvre la voie à l’optimisation de l’utilisation métal à des fins plus appliqués, le cuivre étant un puissant agent antimicrobien.
Microbiologist and biochemist, specialist in the study of molecular chaperones and metalloproteins, my current project consists in deciphering the impact of copper excess on bacteria and on the proteostasis (protein homeostasis). Current work in the laboratory shows that a slight excess of copper in a cell leads to the inactivation or even aggregation of many proteins. Under these conditions, chaperone proteins play a major role. Our work allows a better understanding of the mechanism of action of copper and opens the way to the optimization of this metal for biomedical purposes, copper being a powerful antimicrobial agent.
