Since many years, my research projects deal with the study of structural transitions in proteins, including Intrinsically Disordered Proteins (IDPs), flexible proteins, metalloproteins and membrane proteins. The approach I use is Site Directed Spin Labeling (SDSL), based on the use of a spin probe, and EPR spectroscopy (Electronic Paramagnetic Resonance). Spin probes can be either nitroxide molecules or metal centers (endogenous or incorporated). Distance measurements between spin probes is also an approach I use to follow structural modifications in biological systems. I am also interested to study the link of protein conformational changes to their functions, in particular electron transfer, and in original biological approaches using non natural amino acids combined with SDSL, using non commercial spin labels.
